Make sure that the opportunity on the farm provides the experience necessary to achieve your long-term goals. Your expectations will be measured against the job [you anticipate]. In addition you should consider designing a leadership development plan.

College is only a basic foundation for the lifetime of learning that will be necessary for success. Leadership skills and career development are one of your primary responsibilities. Rather than stand back and wonder what life may provide, be accountable for your own development. Take advantage of experiential opportunities, create circumstances that provide learning, and talk to people who can provide insight that differs from your own. Success in life is determined by the decisions you make and the actions you take."
